UPDATE 06/14/2025: I recognize this document has been spread far and wide into the community, so I wanted to clear up some misconceptions to new readers. This has been written with the intention of posting it publicly - however, we do not intend to share this publicly at this time, as M has abandoned their cosplay account and has not been attending local conventions. In the case that they become active in the community again, we will look into publishing this document publicly. Until then: NOBODY has permission to post a link to this document on any public social media account or forum. People ARE encouraged to share this privately with others in the cosplay community to protect themselves. But please respect the victims wishes to keep this information under the radar and allow us to open up about our stories OURSELVES when we feel it is appropriate. If you see anybody speaking about this document or posting the link publicly, please tell them to take it down.
I’d like to preface this with three important asks: 1) please do not harass anyone mentioned in this story. 2) Please do not read the long version of this story if detailed descriptions of sexual assault, self-harm, psychological/narcissistic abuse, grooming, suicide, and addiction/substance abuse are triggering for you at this time. 3) If you plan to reading this with the intention of defending M, please just save yourself the time and stop reading right now. Any hateful messages sent to any of us will be deleted. We will never see it. M will not see you defending them. M is not the one that needs to be protected in this situation.
This is not a call out post. We are bringing the actions of a dangerous individual to light. M has abused their power in the cosplay community to hurt others, and they hid behind their large following to avoid taking accountability for the harm they have caused. I would not be opening up about this if I didn’t believe M was an active danger to the community, so please fully read this statement before making any assumptions about our intentions. I did everything I could to avoid things getting to this point - but I have been left with no other choice after giving them 2 years to make things right. I stayed silent to protect them, but I don’t care anymore. I care a lot more about protecting the community now. After months of investigation and discussion with others in the community, we have made the decision to speak up about our experiences with M.
Now, with the TL;DR version out of the way - here’s an in-depth version of the abuse I went through with M. Please feel free to skip this if you don’t want to read about explicit descriptions of abuse and assault - the TL;DR covers the core conflict, and in my opinion, should be more than enough evidence for people to believe they are an active danger to the cosplay community. But after dealing with M for 5 years, I think it’s time for me to open up about my experience with them.
Important note: all the documentation shown are from Instagram DMs, but they appear different because I have pulled them from a message archive I downloaded in anticipation of M blocking me. I knew they would do this to keep me from having access to proof that they were abusive to me for the past 3 years. Some conversations are presented in video format to avoid accusations of manipulating the evidence or tailoring them to fit my narrative. I have done my best to omit any sensitive information about me, M, or other people.
I will not be redacting the names of M’s enablers in this story. They chose to protect an abuser, so I will not protect them, either.
